Collaborative research by the Korean Biodiversity Consortium
Overview of the study
  • The member institutions of the Korean Biodiversity Consortium jointly conduct academic research to secure biodiversity resources in Korea, aiming to establish a system for the discovery, acquisition, information production, and utilization of biodiversity.
Survey schedule
  • Twice a year, in May and June and in August and September, in consideration of the characteristics of each biological taxonomic group, and the biota is surveyed every 10 years by dividing the entire country into 10 regions.
Survey content
  • National biodiversity information (specimen information, observed data, etc.) / survey by each of 10 taxonomic groups including plants, insects, birds, marine organisms, freshwater fish, fungi and microorganisms, geology and topography, fossils, amphibians, reptiles, mammals, and life information by 10 taxonomic groups
Range of participants
  • Researchers/staff and academic members of member organizations of the Korean Biodiversity Consortium
Utilization of survey results
  • The collected data will be made available on the National Knowledge Portal and GBIF (www.gbif.org) / * Korean Natural History Research Information System (https://naris.science.go.kr)(https://naris.science.go.kr/)
  • Publication in the Journal of Asia-Pacific Biodiversity, an international journal specializing in biodiversity
