The background of establishing the KBIF Committee

To fulfill its obligations as a member of the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) and to support its participation, the GBIF Korean Committee and the GBIF Korean Secretariat are established and operated.

Structure of the Korean Committee

No more than 15 members, including senior-level officials from the 7 ministries responsible for biodiversity and relevant experts

Operation of the Korean Secretariat

The KBIF Secretariat operates with the following missions.

  • Establishes a system for cross-border exchange and cooperation of biodiversity information-related materials and information

  • Establishes, updates, and manages Korea's implementation plan for the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF)

  • Support the Korean delegation to the Executive Board of the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) and international conferences on biodiversity information

  • Support biodiversity information-related committees and agreements with other ministries

  • Secures, disseminates and promotes Korean and international biodiversity information

  • Establishment and operation of biodiversity information system

  • Operation and support of the network of the Korean Biodiversity Consortium
